DRP - how
does BC Expert deliver this complex process
The first stage in the DRP development cycle is setting up the
project scope, policies and responsibilities. BC Expert assists with
the establishment of DRP scope and policies and also provides
guidance on responsibility and management commitment. The second
stage is risk identification and this is achieved through examining
all the hazards and threats that the organization may be facing and
determining which ones may represent a serious threat. BC Expert
includes a wide range of suggested hazards and threats and the the
User may add additional threats if needed.
The next stage is to
analyse the
products and services and the technology based operational
components used is the production, preparation or delivery of those
products and services. In the DRP, impact categories can be
chosen from the list included in the BC Expert system and additional
categories may be added if desired. Impact measurement time periods
are then chosen for the business impact assessment process. BC
Expert allows the linking of operational components together and the
cascading of BIA values throughout the full operational process.
Incident and continuity plans are then developed and tested and
competent people allocated to each critical task. A communication
plan is prepared and emergency contact details for all critical
personnel kept up to date. |

Easy to
prepare DRP with the BC Expert building features
The DRP software uses
standard task based methodology when building response and recovery
plans. This involves using the incident or continuity phases
included within BC Expert the plan cycle. Business continuity plans
may be built using the BC Expert plan builder features that allows
the user to duplicate plans or tasks that have already been prepared
in the current plan being built. This is a great time saver
and speeds up the planning process considerably leaving scarce
resources free for other critical tasks.
Effective DRP are
essential to identify critical vulnerabilities and develop suitable
strategies for reducing the frequency and magnitude of disruptive
incidents. Using the plan builder makes the task of detailed planner
more manageable and quicker. |

Having
an effective DRP should result in avoiding the worst pain of
disruptive incidents
How prepared is your
organization to withstand serious disruptive incidents. Statistics
show that 70% of companies that do not have an effective DRP are
likely to go out of business following a serious disruptive
incident.
A serious incident can happen at any time and if you
have not prepared a suitable DRP then you
probably have not assessed the risks your organization is facing
either.
It is recognized that
having an effective DR plan is an important part of the
organization's corporate governance and providing an adequate level
of resources to meeting this objective is part and parcel of the
Governing Board's key responsibilities.
